Fun Soy is just back in London, following a wonderful weekend experiencing all that lovely Padstow has to offer. Naturally, in the name of research, this mainly took the form of the gastronomic! So we spent Friday to Sunday at this small working port in Cornwall, and we discovered that there is no better place for relaxing in the harbour with local seafood (see photo).
Fresh grilled hake with lemon juice, parsley and olive oil, or eggs with bright sunshine yellow yolks for breakfast, oysters charentaise, fish pie with truffle veloute, or lobster bisque for lunch, and beef dripping battered cod and chips, lobster thermidor, fish tacos, or huge grilled prawns with oodles of garlic mayo for supper...you really can't go wrong in Padstow for food. Whether this be at one of Rick Stein's famous establishments, where the experience and staff are as superb as the fare, or at one of the local hotel/ pubs such as The Old Custom House, which we found extremely hospitable and charming too!
We will most certainly be going back, perhaps in slightly warmer weather. Although, it was worth braving the chilly coastal breeze in February anyway. And you can always stop by BinTwo for a little tipple to warm the cockles of your heart! We highly recommend a trip to see what all the fuss is about. And don't forget to take a bottle of your favourite flavour of Fun Soy with you to perfectly compliment the cuisine! We left a bottle of each for Mr Stein to try, so hopefully we'll be back with his comments soon!
